Stuck in a Rut: 5 ways to Break Free
It seems there is no growth without first hitting a roadblock in life, and many times that creates a stuck feeling that many people can’t quite shake. Feeling discomfort and unhappiness in your career, relationship, life, purpose, or just feeling a bit ‘blah’ overall can all be symptoms that are calling your attention to something that needs to change.
If you are feeling stuck right now, chances are you are very close to a breakthrough that will change your life for the better. Here are 5 sure-fire ways to break free from being stuck in a rut and get back to the flow of life your soul is craving.
1) Focus more on what you want (and less on what you don’t want).
If you have been feeling stuck for a while it’s likely because you have been so focused on what you don’t want versus what you do. As human beings we tend to focus more on the problem that is right in front of us instead of the solution that we desire which only keeps us stuck in the problem. By shifting your focus to the career, relationship, or life that you truly desire, you open the door for new ideas, opportunities, and information to come to you in ways you never considered. Change your thoughts and you will change your life…guaranteed.
2) Take action.
Feeling stuck in life also likely means you are feeling a bit paralyzed because you are unsure of what actions to take. Your thought process might be a bit blurred and instead of taking risks and doing things that might not work out, you have gotten comfortable with the discomfort. But this isn’t about just taking any action. It’s about doing the thing you know you need to do to get moving forward again. Not sure what action to take? Here’s a hint...it’s the first thing that popped into your mind when you read that last statement. Trust that you have all the answers you need within you. To access them, all you have to do is listen.
3) Do more of what you love to inspire new ideas and solutions.
There is no greater feeling than the feeling you get when you do something that truly lights your soul on fire. There is no way you can feel stuck when you are painting, singing, dancing or doing whatever the equivalent is for you. The beauty of it is that as you are doing the things you love, you are allowing the ideas and inspiration you need to come into your awareness to help you break free from being stuck. It’s a win-win all around. So, no more wallowing and waiting for inspiration to strike. Go out there and do something you love and watch as the ideas come flooding in. P.S. Make sure you have a notebook to capture all of your brilliant ideas.
4) Take risks.
Far too many people find themselves quite comfortable with the discomfort that they are feeling in their lives. Whether you feel stuck in a job you hate or in a relationship that isn’t working for you, there is likely a bit of comfort that comes from knowing what to expect. In order to create a change in your life you have to be willing to take risks. Reach outside your comfort zone and do something that excites you, even if it scares you a bit. By shaking things up in your life and being willing to leap outside your comfort zone every now and again, you automatically open the door for new vibrant energy and opportunities to flow your way.
5) Be open to support.
If you’ve been stuck for a long time and no matter what you do, you can’t seem to break free; it might be time to reach out for help. Whether you reach out to a counselor, coach, or mentor, there are many people in the world who have a gift of helping people like you find the clarity they need to move forward. All you have to do is ask and be open to the support they can provide. The key to finding the right person is to listen to your intuition and find someone you really connect with.
